Fiberglass Surfboard
Adam Healy one of two owners of Benpat International with a fiberglass surfboard on the beach Ark Shek O on Hong Kong Island. Benpat International was created in 1990 by John Patkin and I took the helm of the company in 2008. A major part of our production is exported to Australia, the United Kingdom and to the U. S. . Our surfboards are made of polyurethane foam - the boards are called blank-PU foam blanks to short. They are made at the request and the final shape is given by manually sanding with sandpaper to finish the fiberglass surfboard in a factory Guandgong we work with over 15 years. We import slabs of polyurethane foam in Australia where our two suppliers, one on the Gold Coast and one in Sydney. We tried some blank decks from other parts of the world but the best we've found so far come from Australia. They are the ones who succeed the best chemical mixture. All our boards are made to the exact measurements specified by our customers. The final product is to be sanded or polished appearance. Between 20% and 30% of PU foam piece is lost during the manufacture of a board. We also make carbon fiber boards. They are stiffer and stronger but also much more expensive. Logos are either spray painted or printed on rice paper, a method increasingly popular. With rice paper we print directly on paper what our customers want and that in a very precise way: any type of drawing but also photos, something not possible with paint to bomb. The printed paper is then pasted on the board. We work with distributors in USA, Australia (Midcoast Surf Shop), England (Loose-Fit Surf Shop) and New Zealand (Hectic Global Sports) as well as stores and shops in these countries as we do not sell not directly to the public except in Hong Kong.
