So it is really possible to surf on the street!. Sprout recently sent me a cool link by about surfboard design. It is indeed quite a lot about how the best surfboards should look like and what forms, shapes affect performance of surfing. Unfortunately, sometimes too deep on that one and sometimes the smallest detail and enlarged to fads again with something new. The surfing industry is always looking for new shapes and new materials and hopes to launch each new fads . . 1. Surfboards with a flat rocker paddle faster, seems logical and correct, although the volume of the board of major importance. So between boards with the same volume will be better with flatter rocker paddle. And since you (especially in the North :-)) Most of your time is to paddle . . not unimportant when choosing a surfboard. 2. Volume is your best friend: the surf industry is recently jumped. Much shorter boards but with a huge amount of volume. Of major importance in the North Sea mushy, tiny waves. Keep in mind that the more volume the harder to duckdiven . . 3. The shape of the tail is not so important: for a piece correctly. Especially the thickness of the tail and the lower rails and volume play a role. But if you're a pro at surfing and have identical boards with a completely different tail (eg fishtail vs squash tail), then you surely have noticed a difference . . minimally so. 4. Vs back foot. Front foot: if you want to surf radical (with a shortboard) idd you will have to surf from your back foot. This by weight to put on the shelf just above your fins (a tailpad can help). I do not believe this is the only correct way to surf. Check out some retro videos (fish boards) or longboard movies. But if you want to surf like Kelly Slater . . ok . . :-) Go for the back foot. 6. The rocker influences the speed and agility: the flatter the rocker, the faster your speed and the better you can save on flats in the gulf will get but the less speed you can convert curves. A hollow rocker will be much more mobile. Result is that with a flat rocker will have to stand back more and exert more pressure and weight on your back foot. 7. Adjust the curve of your board to fit the curve of the wave: results from above, but only applies if you have a certain level in your surfing. How hollow, the more the waves steeper curve in the board. For the North Sea is of little importance. 8. Every surfer has his own cubic volume: that is a measure of each shaper and surf shop longboard surfboard design should know what suits you perfectly. This volume depends on your weight, your level of surfing and build your athletic / fitness. 9. Choose a shaper who knows you well and that the spots are familiar: for surfing on the North Sea, you have really not much choice . . 10. Balance is the most important thing: your longboard surfboard design to be balanced. Material, shape, rocker and outline should be balanced with each other. Negative extremes are more likely to work unless you're a pro and want to try something crazy. . General: For the North Sea so you can score best with a surfboard (longboards not included) with little rocker and plenty of volume. All other items such as fins, tail, outline, materials, etc. . may play a minimal role, but depends on your surfing level and the level of the waves . . . . .
