Surfboard Lights
Geometry, industry and psychedelic are the forms and themes of a major retrospective of John McCracken and hosted by the Contemporary Art Museum of the Castello di Rivoli (Torino) until next June 22. McCracken, born in Berkeley (California) in 1934, has always been interested in his own way the experience of the American counterculture embraced not so much as a declaration of intent or social-political and as research on the senses . . His version of minimalism, in fact, is characterized by the experiments on color, metals, plastics, paints and resins that create a kind psychedelic influences due to the special quality of their reflections. Highlights of the exhibition are the pure geometric forms (rectangles, squares, cubes) treated with materials that esaltanola luminositdell'ambiente surrounding, in particular the frequent use of the paints used in California to build and decorate with bright colors surfboards and cars, and ricorrela diagonal geometric shape that symbolizes the rise and movement, the most symbolic passage between levels of knowledge (namely 'lighting).
